OSC Joins Inaugural Cohort of Planetary Security Program

Today, we are honoured to announce that Planet has selected Open Source Centre (OSC) to join the inaugural cohort of its Planetary Security Program.

Planet has been an indispensable provider to OSC from the start. We have relied on its imagery across our work, from monitoring DPRK maritime sanctions evasion, to the war in Ukraine, and strikes on Iran. Planet has provided a core analytic capability to the organisation, directly enabling our investigations and impact.

For many of us on the team, SkySat was the first satellite we ever tasked, and it remains one of the most effective tools available. Planet’s continued investment in high-resolution imaging, combined with rapid revisit rates, has fundamentally changed the field of open source intelligence for the better.

Our upcoming research focuses on the Arctic, an area of growing geopolitical importance. While Russian forces continue offensive operations in Ukraine, the High North remains a strategic priority for the Kremlin. Rich in resources, the region also functions as Russia’s Northern Bastion, hosting many of the country’s nuclear and naval assets.

Using Planet imagery and data for its analysis, OSC will assess changes to Russia’s defence posture in the High North, sharing critical intelligence with the public. We are incredibly excited about this collaboration, which allows us to showcase the next-generation of geospatial intelligence.
